theMODERN

2014 | Las Vegas, NV

The Modern sits at the convergence of Las Vegas’s founding 1905 grid and the 1960’s grid that pushed growth into the surrounding valley. It is this inherent quality of the site that provides the shape of theModern. TheModern merges these grids through volumetric forms to ground the museum to our past while acknowledging the current era

The Public Hall aligns with the 1905 grid. Structured of board formed concrete, the mass is firmly anchored to the creation of the city. The Galleries, elevated from the public hall, are rotated to align with the 1960 grid. Wrapped in dimpled stainless steel panels, the galleries are imprinted with an image of the Red Rock Mountains. This process of manufacturing these panel marks our specific time.
