Now in Process
2019 | University of North Carolina, Charlotte
Art is a never-ending pursuit; projects and perspectives change, but the creative process is in constant motion. Architecture is certainly no exception. Although set apart from its fine art cousins (painting and sculpture), architecture is ultimately a combined procedure of design and engineering that is always affected by such variables as environment and stylistic trends. It is, after all, the sole fine art that is completely gauged but its functionality and ability to be “lived in” or “lived with”. The path to that end includes an array of studio methods: digital fabrication, video editing, industrial manufacturing, computer aided design, and even ceramic modeling. Faculty and staff in UNCC’s School of Architecture have continued projects throughout this past year of unprecedented circumstances. Personal, professional and public projects have persisted in virtual classrooms and private studios. This exhibition explored some of those in-process projects and provides insight into the diversity of architectural creative processes.
