Double Negative by Michael Heizer
1969 | Moapa Valley
An invisible insertion into an untouched landscape, a marking unseen until you are there. Upon arrival, however, its physical properties are immediately felt. Tension between what is and what is no longer creates a feeling of palpable electricity, a feeling of loss coupled with the gift of understanding. As the earth reclaims the void, the result is a landscape of diverse texture, irresistible to the touch.
“There is nothing there, yet it is still a sculpture.”
–Michael Heizer
