With the words of Claude DeBussy, “Music is the space between the notes,” we began to re:look at the work of Kandinsky. The relationships (voids) created among his colored volumes. Singular strokes reading as circulation lines. This examination lead us to a separation of programmatic volumes into simple shapes “scattered” across the site, captured within an imposed ellipse of containment. As the development of the plan continued, the voids between became incisions into the elliptical roof form, emphasized through light, they are chance…planned encounters within the plan.
