SC2 Challenge Competition Entry

As part of a national effort behind rethinking downtowns, Las Vegas was one of 7 cities to be part of the competition. Working just outside the parameters of the competition, we envisioned a cultural and educational intervention from Wyoming to Freemont Street along 3rd Street and Main that would support housing infill.

The design linked education, new facilities from elementary school to high school with UNLV components of film, entertainment engineering, cultural studies with elements of work force training. The educational facilities would bring new need for housing within the district. A new hybrid was exploded where housing would buy air right from the educational facilities to help support and place new housing above educational facilities.

Cultural and educational center are entwined at the intersection of Charleston and 3rd with expanded cultural offerings continuing along 1st Street to Freemont.

Our master plan was ultimately selected as the 2nd place runner up in the national competition.
