[rift]

2016 | Las Vegas, NV

[rift] is an architectural trilogy, comprised of three realms of dwelling: the earth room, the landscape room, and the sky room. The architecture reconstructs how one occupies the landscape, vertically splitting the enclosure below and above ground, preserving the native landscape as one extensive space and redefining the main floor of the house.

Embedded beneath the surface, the earth room experiences minimal solar exposure, and employs the earth’s temperate conditions. The landscape room spatially preserves and reinvigorates outdoor inhabitation and, lastly, the sky room visually extends the architecture from site to context, framing views of the built and natural environments of Las Vegas.
