HYBRID
2014 | Las Vegas, NV
Much has been writing about the museum as an architectural icon that overtakes the art, leaving little room for the art to shine. Hybrid looked at the gallery as a simple container, one that would enable the art to be celebrated, with natural light from ceiling crevices and then wrapped a protective screening to hold back a transfer of heat. Within the void between the galleries and screen, one would traverse a series of ramps as if captures within a series of slot canyons. These ramps would lead patrons through the museum’s axiom spaces (restaurant, educational center, auditorium, offices, library and gift store) to the galleries. The screen is allowed to shine, a latern in a dark sky, while the galleries remain understated to enable the art to be celebrated.
