V ELEMENTS

The conceptual design of V Elements draws on the cultural and personal histories of the clients, utilizing the 5 Elements Theory, the Chinese philosophy of conceiving the world as phases of constant change.  The balance of these five elements – wood, fire, earth, metal, and water - is developed throughout the residence to create a home that exists in harmony with nature, promoting the positive energy flow between the site, the home, and the clients.

This approach forges a deep connection to the site and an active awareness of the characteristics of the home’s material palette, organization, and orientation. The earth and fire elements of the desert landscape are brought into balance through the elemental structure of the home’s metal façade, the sight and sound of water in the reflecting pond and pool, and the organic, human element of wood into tactile surfaces. 

The presence of these elements permeates the interior and exterior spaces, creating a holistic and balanced experience between the residence and its site.
